GJEPC Takes Anant Abroad, Looks East for Jewelry Trade

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is making a concentrated effort to explore markets like China, West Asia and Russia for exports of diamonds of and diamond jewelry, according to a report by India’s daily business newspaper The Financial Express.

 

The Indian trade industry group is organizing buyer-seller meets using the Anant promotion effort as a platform for these business-generating gatherings. Anant is a diamond jewelry line developed by GJEPC together with Indian diamond jewelry firms to promote sales to Indian consumers. Such meets have already taken place, GJEPC’s marketing and promotions director Sanjay Kothari told the newspaper.

 

Citing the U.S.’s weakened stature as a consumer of the world’s jewelry, Kothari said studies have shown that India and China will take a greater role in the world jewelry industry in the years to come.

 

“China, West Asia and Russia are upcoming markets with large business potential. We would want to tap into these markets to give a real boost to the exports from India,” Kothari said.

 

Anant was launched in September by the GJEPC as a diamond jewelry line designed exclusively for the Indian consumer. The line has been an integral part of the GJEPC’s marketing initiative to boost diamond jewelry sales in India and is a joint undertaking of the GJEPC with retailers, manufacturers and miners. Anant jewelry is available at over 200 retail outlets across India.
