GIA Launches New Diamond Sorting Service

January 25, 10 by Edon Ophir

Eligible stones for new service need
be: D-Z color, 0.15 carat to 0.99 carat

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has launched a Diamond Sorting Service for D-Z color diamonds weighing between 0.15 carat and 0.99 carat, the GIA announced Monday. Clients must submit a minimum of 50 stones in bulk, however stones do not need to be individually parceled.

The GIA will provide grading reports for the stones which fall under the color and clarity parameters specified by clients. Stones that do not meet the criteria will be rejected and charged a nominal fee.

The new service will initially be performed at the GIA Laboratory in Carlsbad, California, but the GIA hopes to phase the service in at its other locations in the near future.
