Sahar-Atid Receives Outstanding Exporter Award

December 20, 10 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

Ganz, President Peres and Trade Minister Ben Eleizer
(IDEX Online News) - Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Sightholder Sahar-Atid received the Outstanding Exporter Award for 2009 from Israel’s President, Shimon Peres. The company exported $63.7 million worth of polished in 2009.

“When Israel was established, it did not have what to live off of and did not have what to export,” Peres said at the ceremony. Today, he added, Israel exports carrots to Russia, irrigation systems to China and computer chips to the U.S.

Sahar-Atid was established in Israel in 2000, is a contract buyer of Harry Winston since 2003 and has been a DTC Sightholder since 2008. For eight years, the manufacturer had facilities in Russia as well; however, they were closed during the recent financial crisis.

“I’m optimistic, despite the current hardship and the high price of rough diamonds,” partner Yair Sahar told IDEX Online. “The diamond industry has changed dramatically in the past few years, and this change has been very positive.”
