Jewels of Faith on Display at Diamond Museum
April 18, 12More than 70 silver Judaica pieces created by the Israeli artists Mauriciu Samuel and Itzhak Luvaton are currently on display at the museum.
According to Yair Sahar, whereas most of the previous exhibitions were devoted to diamonds and jewels that adorn the body, this exhibit deals with glorifying the soul. “What are presented here are the jewels of faith, the ornaments of religious precepts, and the adornments of good deeds,” he said.
Among the items are some very traditional designs, including ritual wine cups, spice boxes and Hanukkah lamps. At first glance, the other pieces in the show, including a Harley Davidson motorcycle and sidecar, a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, a bicycle, an airplane and a ferries wheel appear to be nothing more than exquisite object d'art. A closer examination, however, reveals that they contain hidden ritual objects within them.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by the former Chief Rabbi of Israel and Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv Israel Lau; the mayor of Ramat Gan, Zvi Bar; the chairman of the executive of the museum and president of the Israel Diamond Exchange Yair Sahar; the chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute Group (IDI) Moti Ganz and the president of the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association, Bumi Traub.
The exhibition, which is curated by Yehuda Kassif, art director of the HODM, is open through July.
The Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum (HODM) is part of the Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies.
