Jewelry Sales Back on Track at Japan's Department Stores

– After a short lull in August, the jewelry category is once again posting a growth of more than 7 percent at Japan's department stores.

 

The jewelry, luxury and precious metals category posted a 7.1 percent gain in September, rising to $298.3 million, according to the Japan Department Stores Association.

 

This is the best performing category, according to data published by the association today (Monday). Growth in jewelry sales were followed by cosmetics, up 4.8 percent.

 

Overall sales at department stores softened 0.2 percent year-over-year. The data covers sales at 249 department stores from all over Japan. Sales in Tokyo increased 0.7 percent.
