Italian Lab GECI Surveying Industry On Synthetics Knowledge

(IDEX Online News) – Italian grading lab and gemological institute, Gemological Education Certification Institute (GECI), is asking visitors to its site to answer a questionnaire on the issue of synthetic diamonds in a bid to discover the level of knowledge in the industry on the subject.
The Milan-based lab, established last year by Alberto Osimo who serves as President, has created a simple survey with eight questions, asking respondents if they have ever come across a synthetic stone, and whether they know about the HPHT and CVD production methods.
Other questions include whether a 5 point diamond can be synthetic and whether they know how De Beers’ DiamondView detection machine works.
“We thought it would be interesting and useful to know just how much information the diamond industry public has about synthetics since the issue has become so important in the past two years or so,” said Osimo, who has been involved in the diamond and jewelry industry for 25 years.
“We do not believe that such an exercise has been carried out in the global diamond trade before and it is going to be very interesting to collate the answers and receive a precise estimation of the industry’s level of awareness of this very important issue,” he added.
The survey, which is also being promoted on GECI's Facebook page and Twitter account, can be found at: https://it.surveymonkey.com/s/BCTRJKW
