(IDEX Online News) – At least four diamond mines are scheduled to open in Lesotho this year, according to the country’s minister of Mining, Lebohang Thotanyana, as reported by StarAfrica.
The new openings – the Liqhobong, Mothae, Kolo and Lemphane mines – are set to quadruple annual diamond production from the southern African country.
Lesotho is the home of the Gem Diamonds Ltd-owned Letsĕng mine, which has seen some of the world’s largest diamond finds in recent times. The Letšeng mine is the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world.
