Pure Gold Jewellers Aids Tamil Nadu Flood Victims

(IDEX Online News) – Pure Gold Jewellers has announced the completion of the third phase of its relief efforts for flood victims in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The main beneficiaries of the $45,000 so far given in emergency relief supplies, including blankets, water, medicines and clothes, have been 1,345 families in the worst-hit district of Cuddalore.
“In times like these, we need to come forward to help in any way we can, most of the affected families are worried about their future as they have lost most of their belongings and means of livelihood. Our relief efforts are currently focused on providing emergency relief supplies. There is also a high risk of waterborne diseases in these areas. We will soon be embarking on a project for installation of hand pumps to ensure clean drinking water for the residents,” said Pure Gold Jewellers founder and chairman Firoz Merchant.
The worst of the floods occurred in November-December – monsoon season – leaving more than 500 people dead, damaging infrastructure and agriculture, affecting up to 2 million people in the process.
