Diwali Closedown of Manufacturing Plants Begins in Surat

October 25, 16 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online) – Many smaller and medium-size diamond plants in Surat, India's major diamond cutting and polishing center, have already begun the closedown for the country's almost three-week long Diwali holiday.

The Diwali vacation begins on October 30, with millions of workers across the country leaving their work to spend the holiday with their families.

.

With a build-up of polished diamond inventory this year, many plants are able to let staff leave early since polished prices, especially for smaller goods, have dropped by around 10%, according to a Times of India report.
