The IDEX Online Polished Price Report – February 2019

(IDEX Online News) – Price developments for round diamonds under 80 points remained mostly stable with some goods, especially in the higher colors, losing a few percent. Goods between 80 points and a carat did not experience radical changes, with some goods in mid-range clarities also giving up a few percent. Stones of a carat up to a 1.25 carat in high colors and mid-range clarities underperformed, losing a few percent in the process. In contrast, 1.25-1.5 ct. goods did well in D and E colors and in the highest clarity ranges.
The good news came from the 2.-3 carat categories with high colors and high clarity ranges doing well, increasing in value up almost four percent. This trend was also visible in the 3-4-carat categories. There, the upward price curve extended from D- L, but seldom ventured beyond the VS2 clarity range. 

Prices of some fancies in top colors and high and mid-range clarities saw a bit of downturn. This was compensated by the steady price gains that fancies of half a carat up to one carat witnessed. Here, many of the top, high and commercial colors, in clarity ranges from IF to I2 gained value moderately. Price developments for fancies up to 1.25 carat were again mixed, but fancies above 1.25 carat in top colors gained an average of three percent. This trend continued in the larger sizes, up to three carats and was carried down to both commercial colors and clarities, with an average price gain of three percent as well. Goods in sizes above three carats registered little change, with some goods in higher and commercial colors gaining a few percent, mostly in the lower clarity ranges.
