Spectacular Diamond Jewelry Auction to Fight COVID-19

June 16, 20 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online)- Three spectacular pieces of diamond jewelry, one featuring a 27.02 carat fancy brown-yellow diamond, are to be auctioned to support healthcare workers fighting coronavirus.

They've been specially created by renowned Taiwan-born designer Anna Hu and will be sold by Christie's to help Diamonds That Care, a social responsibility initiative launched by Russian miners Alrosa.

All three pieces were created using rich brown diamonds extracted by Alrosa in Yakutia, in the Siberian Far East.

The largest stone (pictured), the 27.02 carat fancy brown-yellow diamond, is set in an 18-carat red gold and white gold necklace, together with smaller fancy color and colorless diamonds.

The auction also includes an 18-carat red gold ring featuring a faint brown diamond weighing 1.59 carats; and a pair of earrings of 18-carat white gold and 18-carat red gold, each featuring a pear-shaped three-carat diamond.

"We are living in a different world, where old divides are no longer important because we all face the same threat," said Sergey Ivanov, CEO of Alrosa.

"By working with Christie's, which operates in all the regions affected by the coronavirus, and the brilliant Chinese jewelry artist Anna Hu, we are raising funds for a US-based charitable organization supporting activities in various countries

Anna Hu said: "I was inspired and grateful to have received the opportunity to work on something larger than simply beautiful jewelry, something meaningful and with heart."

The auction runs from 3 to 13 July.
