IDEX Price Report for 1 August: Fancies Down, Rounds are a Mixed Bag

OVERALL

Prices for round polished diamond were largely static for the "bread and butter goods" - sizes between 0.70-1.99 cts - in July. Fancies under four carats sustained a number of losses.

ROUNDS

There wasn't a single movement among one-carat goods (1.00-1.24 cts) and slightly larger and smaller stones - 0.90-0.99 cts and 1.25-1.49 cts - barely moved. But there were discernible trends among some other sizes. There was a clear downward trend for 0.45 ct range in VVS goods, sporadic upward movement in 0.50 cts, quite some movement in 0.3-0.39 cts both up and down - with a clear trend in the SI2 goods.

FANCIES

Fancies saw more movement overall, concentrated among specific sizes and with losses outweighing gains. Stones sized 0.18 cts to 0.22 cts saw many four and five per cent drops among better colors and clarities. Larger stones, 4.00-5.99 cts, saw a number of increases, mostly among better colors. Many other sizes of stone detailed below saw a smattering of price drops, but in many cases they were too isolated to indicate a trend.
