(IDEX Online) - Christie's has sold a pendant necklace with a 116-carat diamond for $6,290,500 in its first "live" auction in New York since coronavirus.
The pear-shaped brilliant-cut diamond (pictured) is 115.83 carats, F color, VVS1 clarity and the platinum necklace includes more than 50 other diamonds, of up to 5.50 carats. The price was shy of its $7m high estimate.
The auction house said its Magnificent Jewels, on 29 July, realized a total of $28,142,500 with 87% sold by value and 83% sold by lot. It attracted clients from 34 countries.
Another highlight was a fancy intense blue diamond ring - pear-modified brilliant-cut, natural color, IF, type IIb. It sold for $3,855,000, against a high estimate of $5m.
The sale took place in real time at Christie's Rockefeller Center headquarters, but all bids were by phone or online, rather than in-room as a social distancing precaution.
