"Help the Poor" - Mystery Donor Gives Salvation Army a $6,300 Diamond Ring

(IDEX Online) - A mystery donor left an antique diamond ring, valued at over $6,000, in one of the Salvation Army's famous red collection kettles.
The 1.81-ctw ring (pictured) came inside a small plastic bag with a note scrawled on a scarp of paper that simply said: "Help the poor".
The Salvation Army in the Germantown area of Memphis, Tennessee, said: "We may never know the story behind the ring's original owner or what motivated them to so generously drop it into our red kettle on that December night, but year after year, we continue to be amazed by the unwavering love and support from our neighbors."
The ring is 18k gold with an 0.81ct old miner's cut diamond, J / VS1, according to a local jeweler's appraisal.
It has a halo of 10 smaller stones, averaging H-I / SI2-I1, estimated at 1.00-ctw. The insurance replacement value is given as $6,317.
