Wedding Proposals: The Ring is More Important than a "Yes"

February 11, 21 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - When it comes to a wedding proposal, it seems the engagement ring is actually more important than a "yes".

Just over half (51 per cent) of the 2,000 engaged Americans surveyed for De Beers said the ring was number one concern.

Bizarrely, only 17 per cent said their top priority was that their partner should accept the proposal.

Pictures of the proposal - during and afterward - were the most important part for 38 per cent, and for 36 per cent it was who else was there to see it.

Diamonds remain the most common gemstone for engagement rings, and princess is the most popular cut (44 per cent).

Despite the importance of the ring itself, only 38 per cent knew their partner's ring size ahead of time.
