Diacore Buys North America's Biggest Ever Diamond

June 20, 21 by

(IDEX Online ) - The biggest polished diamond ever mined in North America has been bought by Diacore.

The Dancing Sun, a 204.36-carat fancy intense yellow VVS2-clarity diamond, was sold at Christie's New York for $4,950,000.

Nir Livnat, executive chairman of Diacore, described the purchase as a "pricey feat". The high estimate was $5.5m.

The company buys, sells and manufactures  high-end gems, including the 203.04-carat De Beers Millennium Star and the 59.60-carat flawless Pink Star.

The Dancing Sun was cut from a 552.74-carat rough unearthed at Rio Tinto's Diavik mine in Canada.

The rough stone was largest gem-quality diamond ever discovered in North America and the polished gem is also the continent's biggest ever.
