US Customs Seize $5.6m of Fakes from Hong Kong

August 08, 21 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Three shipments of counterfeit watches and jewelry, worth $5.6m if genuine, have been seized entering the US from Hong Kong.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Louisville, Kentucky intercepted 580 fake pieces of David Yurman jewelry on 30 July, which would have been worth $365,000.

The following day they seized 2,411 counterfeit designer brand watches with a value, if genuine, of over £4.46m, and a separate shipment of 10 counterfeit Rolex watches ($756,500).

"Our officers are very well trained and vigilant in stopping these illegal shipments from reaching their destinations," said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, the agency's field operations director in its Chicago office.

The shipments from Hong Kong were destined for Ontario, California; Jonesboro, Georgia; and Worcester, Massachusetts.
