70-ct Fancy Yellow Diamond Sells for $2.8m

December 09, 21 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A 70.19-carat VS2 fancy vivid yellow diamond pendant (pictured) sold for $2,850,000.

It led the Christie's Magnificent Jewels sale in New York yesterday, which raised almost $55m, with 91 per cent sold by lot, 94 per cent by value.

Other notable results for colored diamonds were  $2,670,000 for a rare fancy vivid orangy pink diamond ring of 5.38 carats, VS2 clarity, and $2,610,000 for an 8.74-carat IF fancy dark gray-blue diamond ring.

In addition, a Graff ruby and diamond ring realized $1,290,000; an Art Deco emerald, sapphire and diamond brooch once belonging to the socialite Linda Lee Thomas, wife of singer Cole Porter that achieved $381,250; and an exquisite Cartier Art Deco multi-gem and diamond Egyptian revival brooch realized over three times its high estimate and sold for $268,750.

Christie's said there were registered bidders from 30 countries.
