No Clasps, No Claws - the Revolutionary Diamond Setting
December 13, 21
(IDEX Online) - A new diamond setting - without claws, clasps, or overarching metal - will revolutionize diamond jewlery, says inventor Ian Douglas.
He claims the patented "Floeting Diamond" (pictured) is the biggest innovation since Charles Tiffany introduced the iconic six-pronged setting in 1886.
Douglas, a master jewler from New Zealand, said: "Every jeweler in the world has been asked by customers if it was possible to have a ring without the prongs, and until now the answer has always been 'No'. This was thought to be an impossible dream."
"We believe we have invented a diamond shape and setting like nothing the world has ever seen before."
His diamonds are held in place by a micro-groove that has been laser-cut around the underside of the diamond.
A high tensile titanium alloy collet secures the diamond from its underside. The new setting is said to be more than 20 per cent stronger than traditional settings.
The first collection of Floeting Diamonds is available for purchase online through New Zealand-based VG Jewelers, priced $1,600 to $30,000.
