Free Trade Deal Axes Tariffs on Israel's Diamond Exports to UAE

June 02, 22 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Tariffs on most diamonds and jewelry exports from Israel to the United Arab Emirates will be abolished as the two countries establish closer ties.

A free trade agreement signed on Tuesday will further boost trade links between the two countries. Business has flourished since it was officially sanctioned by the Abraham Accords of August 2020.

Tariffs on food, medicine, fertilizers and other chemicals will also be reduced or abolished.

UAE was already responsible for over 10 per cent of Israel's rough diamond exports in 2021 - worth $188m. Imports from the UAE stood at $244m, 11.8 per cent of Israel's total rough imports.

Tariffs on most diamonds and jewelry items exported to UAE are currently five per cent.

In February the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) opened a representative office for the first time at its Dubai counterpart (see picture).
