Zimbabwe Court Returns 129,400-ct Diamonds to UK Miner

February 08, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A parcel of 129,400-carats of rough diamonds that has been at the center of a 12-year dispute in Zimbabwe is to be returned to UK miner Vast Resources.

They'd been in custody of the Zimbabwean Reserve Bank since 2010.

Vast is preparing to sell the diamonds through a tender once it receives a signed order from the High Court of Zimbabwe.

It began formal proceedings to recover the gems last December. The court granted a default order earlier this week against the Minister of Mines and Mining Development.

Andrew Prelea, Vast's CEO said: "Despite taking longer than anticipated, I am very pleased to announce that after many years of hard work and discussion with the Zimbabwean Government the matter regarding the release of the historic parcel has now been amicably settled in a manner supported by an Order of the High Court of Zimbabwe.
