Student Charge with $500,000 Jewelry Scam

March 13, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A student has been charged over a $500,000 credit card scam at the jewelry store where she worked in Burlington, Massachusetts, USA.

Police allege Ariel Foster, 19, spent over $35,000 on a Tesla car, almost $6,000 with Delta Airlines, more than $20,000 on an hotel in Maui, Hawaii, and almost $5,000 in Louis Vuitton purchases.

Their investigation found items scanned at the register had their price increased in eight transactions at Lovisa, a jewelry store in the Burlington Mall.

The cost of the item was then allegedly refunded to a credit card belonging to Foster. The transactions involved a total loss of $547,187.

Foster was arrested on March 8 after police executed search warrants on her home in Boston and her dormitory at the private Lasell University, in Auburndale, Massachusetts.

She was released on bail after appearing at Woburn District Court, in Woburn, MA.
