"Genius" Great Dane Finds Woman's Long-Lost Diamond

June 25, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A "genius" Great Dane reunited its owner with the diamond that had fallen from her wedding ring months earlier.

Katrina Lemmon, from Idaho, USA, had given up hope of ever finding the gem husband Erick Baker gave her 20 years ago.

"It was there one day, and I was getting ready to go to work, and it wasn't on my finger," she told local news website BoiseDev.

She searched the house in vain. Months later her beloved dog Txiki (pronounced 'cheeky') emerged from a closet as she was cleaning, with the loose diamond stuck to its lip.

Great Danes are regarded as one of the cleverest dog breeds, able to understand up to 250 words and gestures and considered by some to be as clever as a three-year-old human.

"He was extremely persistent and didn't want to leave the closet. I think he knew it was there," she said. "He's a genius."
