"Store Dummy" Accused of Jewelry Theft

October 22, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A man stood motionless in a storefront window, posing as a mannequin, then stole jewelry and other items after it closed.

Police in Warsaw, Poland, released this picture (above) of the 22-year-old suspect holding a handbag in a clothing store, with two genuine dummies.

They arrested the man, who is accused of stealing items from the store's jewelry counter, as well as a change of clothes, and of helping himself to two meals from a nearby bar after the shopping mall closed.

Police said in a statement: "A 22-year-old with a bag in his hand froze motionless, pretending to be a mannequin in front of a shop window.

"In this way, he wanted to avoid being exposed by the cameras. After closing the shopping mall, the man robbed the jewelry 'island'."

The man is being held in custody and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of theft and burglary charges.
