Elton Says Goodbye to Yellow Leopard Print Rolex

February 25, 24 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Elton John's yellow gold leopard print Rolex Daytona sold for $176,400 at Christie's New York, smashing its pre-sale estimate of $40,000 to $60,000.

The watch, set with diamonds and orange sapphires, was the highlight of a collection that included 13 Cartiers, five Chopards, four Hublots, two Audemars Piguets and two Franck Mullers. The Rolex Daytona set a new world auction record for the model.

The auction (on 21 February) was the first in a series of eight in which the 76-year-old Rocketman singer is auctioning the contents of his home on Peachtree Road, Altanta, USA, (after which he named his 2004 album).

It raised a total of $8m, including $200,000 for a grand piano and almost $100,000 for a pair of monogrammed silver boots
