Fifth +100-cts Diamond of the Year for Gem

April 30, 24 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Gem Diamonds has announced its second +100-ct recovery in under two weeks.

The UK-based miner recovered a 118.74 carat Type II white diamond on 28 April. It follows the recovery of another Type II white diamond, weighing 169.15 carat, on 18 April.

It's the fifth +100-cts so far this year - as many as Gem recovered in the whole of 2023.

Letseng - 70 per cent owned by Gem and 30 per cent by the Lesotho government - is the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world. Its long-term average is eight +100-cts a year.

In January Gem recovered two diamonds, weighing 129-cts and 295-cts at Letseng and in February it recovered a 113-cts diamond.
