Worker Dies in Jwaneng Mine Accident

(IDEX Online) - A contractor has died in an accident at Debswana's Jwaneng mine, in Botswana.
It involved a crane and drill rig, equipment generally used for blasting holes to access ore in open pit mining.
Debswana, a 50-50 joint venture between the Botswana government and De Beers, said it was investigating the accident, which happened on Monday (17 June).
In a statement the company said: "It is with regret and deep sadness that we inform you of a tragic incident involving a crane and drill rig at our Jwaneng mine operations where an employee of one our business partners, was fatally injured on the morning of Monday June 17, 2024."
