IDEX Price Report for 1 September: Some Gains for Larger Round and Fancy Goods

August 27, 24 by IDEX Online

(IDEX Online) - Prices of some larger goods - rounds and fancies over 2.00-cts - increased during August. Price drops still dominate in most size categories, but we're no longer seeing the same "wall of red".
Larger goods are more volatile, and the first to respond to any changes in the market.  So these may be the first positive signs of some recovery in the natural diamond market, but it's important to note that the overall trend across all sizes and qualities remains downwards.
Summer vacations are only compounding the ongoing problems of a global downturn, lab growns, wars and sanctions that have long been affecting the industry.
Trading appears to be slow in all major hubs and manufacturing in India is well below capacity. Kiran Gems, with over 50,000 polishers, has just resumed operations after a 10-day closure and many smaller factories are working short weeks.

Rounds
Goods of 0.70-cts to 1.99-cts saw price drops among better colors and clarities, mostly H+ and SI1+ with virtually no increases. There was a more mixed picture among larger goods. Price drops still dominated, but they were balanced to some extent by small clusters of rises. In goods over 4.00-cts the price rises were mostly among G+ and VS2+. Very little movement in goods under 0.69-cts.

Fancies
Price drops dominated again in goods under 2.00-cts, but in larger goods there were notable clusters of increases in G+ and VS2+. Among some smaller goods - 0.23-cts to 0.39-cts - prices dropped among the K- clarities.
