September 23, 24
(IDEX Online) - Bonhams is to auction 61 lots from a single, unnamed owner, including a number of highly-prized Oscar Heyman pieces.
The sale - Exceptional Jewels from A Distinguished Collection - takes place this Thursday (26 September) in New York.
Oscar Heyman, known as "the jewelers' jeweler," was founded in 1912 by brothers Oscar and Nathan Heyman, who emigrated from Russia to the US and went on to work with Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston and other high-end maisons.
Among the Oscar Heyman highlights is a Birds in Flight bracelet (pictured) set with carved rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and onyx, with circular-cut diamonds (estimated total diamond weight 6.55 carats). Estimate $80,000 to $120,000.
There's also an Oscar Heyman ring centered with an 8.68 carat step-cut emerald, flanked by 1.35 carats of step-cut trapezoid diamonds. Estimate $250,000 to $350,000.
"We are privileged to present such a colorful offering in this single-owner auction," said Caroline Morrissey, Bonhams director and head of jewelry, New York.
"The spectacular collection of Oscar Heyman jewelry showcases the ingenuity of his designs by creating timeless pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of these vivid colored gemstones."
Among the non-Heyman items is a pendant necklace set with a 12.22 carats old mine brilliant-cut diamond (D color, VS1 clarity) with a $350,000 to $550,000.
