$1m Diamond Watch is Tribute to $4m Bugatti

(IDEX Online) - Luxury watchmaker Jacob & Co has created a $980,000 diamond-encrusted watch based on design features of the new $4.1m Bugatti hypercar.
Both the watch and the car share the name Tourbillon - French for whirlwind - and are part of an ongoing partnership between the two companies.
The Bugatti Tourbillon Baguette watch features 314 white baguette-cut diamonds and 103 baguette-cut rubies, totaling approximately 17 carats, set on an 18K rose gold case and is produced as limited edition of 18.
Standard versions of the watch, without diamonds - the Bugatti Tourbillon - cost between $310,000 and $390,000, depending on the materials used.
Bugatti's flagship Tourbillon is a hybrid car, featuring an advanced 8.3-liter V16 hybrid powertrain that produces 1,775 horsepower, with a top speed of about 277 mph. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 2 seconds.
Jacob & Co says the defining design elements of its watch are drawn directly from the car.
"The Bugatti Tourbillon case shape is the same as Bugatti's car, with the front grille flanked by two side radiator inlets," it says.
"The case sides show two large sapphire openings, shaped and tinted like the car's side windows.
"The sub-dials are designed like the car's dashboard and rpm counter. Its automaton emulates the car's new V16 engine block, down to its exhaust manifolds. Even the winding crown mimics the finishings on the control knobs.
"Never before has the likeness between a timepiece and an automobile been pushed that far and with such accuracy."
