Husband Sifts Dump, Finds Lost Diamond Rings
August 25, 25
(IDEX Online) - Jeannine Van Ysseldyk was reunited with her treasured rings, after her husband Steve spent an hour scouring a municipal landfill site in British Columbia, Canada.
She accidentally threw them into the compost bin, along with a bag of popcorn, after returning from a trip to the movie theater.
When they realized what had happened Steve went to the dump, got down on his hands and knees in the rain and started searching for his wife's solitaire diamond ring - an upgrade from her original engagement ring - and a diamond band for their 10t wedding anniversary.
The subcontractor, Denny Webster, told him he'd said cleared the yard at Mission Landfill a day earlier, so there were "only" three truck loads to search, rather than the usual 50, but he still thought it was a needle in a haystack search.
He used his digger to scoop up and lay out the refuse for Steve to sift.
Steve was just 15 minutes into the search when he spotted a popcorn bag, and within an hour he'd found both rings.
He posted his story on Reddit Vancouver. "I'm still in awe as is my wife who was more than sceptical, a huge thank you to Denny at the Mission landfill," he said.
