(IDEX Online) - Sotheby's New York is to sell a single-owner collection of rare pieces by Suzanne Belperron, JAR and other leading designers, with a combined estimate of over $8m.
The owner is identified only as a "prominent international collector" who spent decades assembling a group of Parisian high jewels, including pieces by Boivin and Cartier.
Highlight of the sale of more than 60 pieces, called A Legacy of Elegance, is a Boucheron ruby and diamond necklace (pictured) with an estimate of $1m to $2m.
It's designed as a laurel wreath featuring seven cushion-cut rubies, mostly of Burmese origin, with a total weight of 39.00 to 40.00 carats.
The laurel leaves are set with old mine- and old European-cut diamonds, weighing a total of approximately 63.00 to 65.00 carats, approximately F to I color, SI-I clarity.
"This collection stands out for its compelling variety of characteristics—rarity, distinguished authorship, impeccable provenance and above all, iconic design," said Quig Bruning, Sotheby's head of jewels, Americas and EMEA.
"It is a true celebration of connoisseurship, showcasing the finest jewels and artisans from the late 19th century through to the present day. Assembled with both passion and joy, these treasures were clearly deeply cherished and lovingly worn by their owner."
