November 05, 25
(IDEX Online) - Thieves stole a safe from the home of a New York jeweler that contained heirloom and custom pieces valued at $3.2m.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) is looking for three men, two of whom dressed as construction workers during the heist in Jamaica Hills, Queens, on 16 October.
They say the thieves loaded the heavy safe into the trunk of a blue Hyundai Elantra and fled.
The safe, which contained mostly his daughter's jewelry, was not bolted to the floor.
The unnamed jeweler was also the victim of a smash-and-grab robbery at his store in December 2024, according to the New York TV channel PIX11. He was also the victim of a burglary at his home 10 years ago.
