Two Jailed for Life for Beating Jeweler to Death
December 17, 25
(IDEX Online) - Two men convicted of beating jeweler Hussein "Sam" Murray to death have been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree felony murder.
Carlos Jose Hernandez, aged 38, and Joshua Zuazo, aged 40, both of Dearborn, Michigan, were given additional sentences for unlawful imprisonment charges by a judge at Oakland County Circuit Court, Michigan, USA.
The pair had posed as workers for DTE Energy, a local electricity and gas company, produced bogus paperwork and claimed to be checking a gas leak before the attack last October.
They beat Murray, aged 72, to death after he led them into the basement to check the supposed leak.
They then bound his wife Linda, also aged 72, beat her and demanded to know where the safe, money, and jewelry were. The attackers fled with costume jewelry, cash, Linda's iPhone, and the keys to her SUV.
In court Abdu Murray, the eldest of the couple's three sons said the defendants "need to feel the weight of their sin to the fullest extent". The judge said their crime was "cowardly".
