(IDEX Online) - A 28.88‑carat, internally flawless, D‑color, Type IIa diamond from the Jwaneng mine in Botswana, is to headline Sotheby's upcoming high‑jewelry auction in Hong Kong next month.
The Jwaneng 28.88 carries a pre-sale estimate of $2.2m to 2.8m (HKD 17m to HKD 22m), equivalent to up to $97,000 per carat.
The stone was unveiled on 19 March at a high-profile launch in London, attended by celebs including British actors Archie Madekwe and Nathalie Emmanuel, musician Poppy Ajudha, and model Poppy Delevingne.
The loose, round brilliant diamond was cut from a 114.83‑carat rough recovered at Debswana's flagship mine and will be offered for sale at Sotheby's Hong Kong's High Jewelry sale on 23 April.
The unveiling of the Jwaneng 28.88 coincided with the launch of De Beers' new book, A Diamond Is Forever - The Making of a Cultural Icon, published by Assouline.
