IGI India Launches Laserscribe Service
August 11, 05
The International Gemological Institute (IGI) in India has launched the Laserscribe, a diamond laser inscription system, that it says adds value for jewelers and gives consumers confidence in their purchases.
For jewelers, the inscription can be used to mark their diamonds as certified, while customers can personalize their stones by inscribing a message.
Tehmasp Printer, Managing Director of IGI in India, said providing diamond inscriptions was a service in high demand.
Some of India’s leading diamond brands like Adora, ORRA, Arisia, Ishis, and Goldstar’s Elinor, already certified by IGI, were using the service to add further value to their jewelry as a way of giving customers confidence in their jewelry purchases as well as security.
Other popular retail brands like Asmi, Nakshatra, Sangini, Gitanjali, and D’damas are also using the service.
The price of the inscription can be from Rs 300 to Rs 500 ($7-$11.5) depending on the message and the certificate number.
IGI certifies more than 500 gemstones and jewelry daily, while the number of gemologists employed has soared to more than 120 from just three in 1999 when IGI launched its India operation.
