Death Reported at Cullinan Diamond Mine

A 27-year-old contractor was killed Monday at De Beers’ Cullinan Diamond Mine in an accident while working underground. An investigation is underway.
No details were provided about the circumstances of Victor Sebopela’s death, an employee of contract cleaning company Makolometja Business Enterprises.
The management of De Beers informed a member of Sebopela’s family working at the mine and visited his family at their home in Limpopo Province to extend their condolences and offer assistance.
South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy was notified of the accident, De Beers said in a release, adding that the details of the accident are the subject of a comprehensive investigation.
