OGI Systems Launches X-Ray and Fire Planning Technology
June 03, 08
Diamond industry technology provider OGI Systems recently launched two new technological developments at the JCK Las Vegas Show – the OGI X-Ray and the Fire Lab Standard – OGF.
The OGI X-Ray was developed for the automatic mapping and evaluation of inclusions in diamonds, without any liquid coating and without having to open a “window” into the stone, especially for coated diamonds. The technology provides a complete mapping of the pique inclusions within a stone.
OGI explains that this system analyzes the carbonized particles in the stone and displays them graphically with the OGIRex special rough software.
The second system – the Fire Lab Standard – OGF – defines the fire in a diamond, allowing for grading the level of “aliveness” in the stone, in four categories: Excellent Fire, Very Good Fire, Good Fire and Fair Fire.
The grading and evaluation of a diamond’s light reflection is determined, OGI notes, by the analysis of different proportions of a stone’s surface, such as crown angle, pavilion angle, table size, total depth, girdle thickness and cutlet size.
The software also provides an option known as FireRecut, allowing a polisher to re-plan a diamond according to new parameters and to give it maximum fire intensity.
