Antwerp Elects AWDC Board of Directors

Members of the Antwerp diamond community have elected their six representatives to the Antwerp World Diamond Centre board of directors, following two days of voting. All six elected diamantaires are members of the Indian community.
The six elected directors are:
Representing companies with a turnover of €100 million or more:
Ashit Mehta (Arjav Diamonds NV)
Kaushik Mehta (Eurostar Diamond Traders NV);
Representing companies with a turnover of €30-€100 million:
Mehul Kothari (Sushang Exports NV)
Bharat Shah (
Representing companies with a turnover of €500,000-€30 million:
Mihir Mehta (Interjewel Europe NV)
Sunil Kumar Shah (Pink Star BVBA).
This is the second time
Some 750 out of 1,800 diamond dealing companies cast their votes, compared to 678 in 2006.
Three additional members are appointed to the 12-person board by the diamond bourses and another two by the employers and employees of the diamond manufacturing industry. The last member is an independent director.
The diamond bourses have appointed current president of the AWDC board of directors Jacky Roth, Freddy Inzlicht and Philippe Barsamian as their three representatives. The employers and employees of the diamond manufacturing industry are expected to announce their candidates shortly.
The new board of directors will be validated formally in the course of next week.
