Vishal Shreyas Doshi, managing director of Shrenuj & Co., has been appointed Botswana’s Honorary Consul in Mumbai, Dorcas Ana Kgosietsile, High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to India announced.
Noting that the appointment was crucial for Botswana/India relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, tourism and culture, Kgosietsile said, the office opening “is bound to strengthen bilateral cooperation, with a view to exploring other possible areas of collaboration.”
Botswana and India have had several high level exchanges during the last few years following a state visit to India by former President Festus Mogae in December 2006. Prior to that, Mogae delivered the inaugural address at the GJEPC organized international diamond conference, Mines to Market in May 2005.
The two countries have since concluded a number of agreements geared toward forging closer economic and cultural ties.
In his acceptance address, the 29-year old Doshi said, “My immediate role will be to promote the Republic of Botswana, the only African nation with a record of consistent economic growth since independence. I hope to achieve this through trade and investment promotion, promotion of cultural exchanges, tourism promotion and other similar activities.”
The office of the honorary consul in Mumbai will cover the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka.
