The world’s smallest diamond was recently polished and certified in India. The diamond, weighing just 0.0003 carats, has 57 facets and was given the name Bhavani Mikro. “We felt it was important to test ourselves,” the company said on why it polished the diamond.

Bhavani Gems, the Mumbai based diamond firm that polished the minute gem, say this is the smallest diamond certified by an independent gemological lab, IGI.

The company’s research and development department manufactured the stone to highlight its manufacturing expertise. “Taking my ethos of innovation as the driving force, I gave my workers the challenge of creating the smallest certified hand cut and polished diamond,” said Bhavani Gems founder and chairman Manjibhai Dholakia.

According to Raj Dholakia, a partner in Bhavani Gems, the unusually small diamond, which looks like a grain of sand to the naked eye, was acknowledged by the Limca Book of Records.

Bhavani Gems has been a DTC Sightholder since 1996.
