AGS Adds QR Code to Grading Documents
December 01, 11
(IDEX Online News) – The American Gem Society Laboratories, LLC (AGS Labs) yesterday (Wednesday) announced the addition of a Quick Response (QR) code to a number of its grading documents. The QR code, unique to each AGS number, links directly to the AGS Lab website Report Verification section to facilitate data retrieval and document verification for the certified diamond.

The QR code on each report is readable using a smart phone QR code reader or the AGS Lab’s custom Apple or Android app.
When users scan the QR code with the AGS Lab’s custom Apple or Android app, they can download the PDF representation of the document directly to their mobile device and store it for later viewing or comparison shopping.
When scanning with a free QR code reader, the document holder will be asked if they would like to download the free AGS Lab app. If they decline, he or she will be directed to the AGS Lab website Report Verification page and be able to view the PDF representation.
The new feature means that consumers do not have to enter an individual AGS number and weight for Report Verification when comparison shopping. It also means that diamond dealers can quickly download and store inventory documents on a smart phone.
“The unique QR code provides another security feature on AGS Lab documents; scanning the code allows for immediate data verification,” said Peter Yantzer, executive director of AGS Labs
The QR code can be scanned from any smart phone (Apple, Android, Blackberry or other type of smart phones) and Android or Apple tablet devices. The AGS Lab custom Report Verification apps are available only for Apple and Android devices.
