Phyllis Bergman Becomes JBT’s First Female Board Chair

(IDEX Online News) – The Jewelers Board of Trade (JBT) has elected Phyllis Bergman, CEO of Mercury Ring, a Division of Interjewel U.S.A., to chair the organization’s board of directors of The Jewelers Board of Trade. Bergman is the first female to chair the board in JBT's 128-year history.

“This is truly a milestone for our organization and for the jewelry industry; JBT will gain immensely from Phyllis’ experience, leadership skills, and perspective,” said JBT president Dione Kenyon. “I know that seeing Phyllis achieve this position will inspire the many women who devote their time to our industry’s welfare and aspire to leadership positions.”

This is not the first time that Bergman has broken through the “diamond” ceiling. She was also the first woman to serve as chairman and president of the 24 Karat Club of New York.

“It is an honor to lead this distinguished group of professionals and I very much look forward to helping maintain the integrity and importance of JBT in our industry,” said Bergman, who, among her other roles, is also board chair of the Diamond Empowerment Fund.

The JBT is the jewelry industry’s largest credit information resource, compiling data from member companies around the world to deliver credit services for finding new customers, monitoring business partners and debt collection.
