(IDEX Online News) – Cameroon’s first organized diamond mine is slated to go into production by the end of January according to a
Reuters report.
A concession at the Mobilong diamond field of C&K Mining, a joint venture between Cameroon and South Korea, reportedly contains 416 million carats of gem- and industrial quality diamond reserves.
Mine manager Deuk Gyun told Reuters that operations would begin by the end of January, once the venture was granted a land certificate.
The mine is projected to have an annual output of 800,000 carats. Until now, Cameroon’s diamond production, mainly from artisanal mining, has only been in the region of 5,000 carats annually.
Cameroon was admitted to the Kimberley Process last August.
