Change of guard at EGL South Africa, as founder Alan Lowe retires

There will a changer of the guared Alan Lowe, founder and owner of EGL South Africa (EGLSA) announced he is retiring from his position as Managing Director of EGLSA

Lowe opened his first EGL diamond grading laboratory in Johannesburg in 1980. In 1996. EGL South Africa expanded into the grading of colored gemstones and at the same time he opened the EGL College of Gemmology that provided gemological training to diamond and colored gemstones traders as well as retail jewelers from the entire African continents.

Next, he opened a laboratory and training college in Cape Town to heed to the requests from the dealers and trade in the Western Cape. His laboratories become known as world class facilities, providing services to the African continent.

Lowe has been a member of the Diamond Dealers Club of South Africa since 2001 and has been an Executive DDCSA member since 2006. He served several terms on the DDCSA's Arbitration Committee and Crime sub-committee. He also sat on the TRG committee to set up the diamond production and grading standards for the Mining Qualifications Authority of South Africa.  Lowe was an officer of the International Diamond Council for many years.

Upon his departure, he will be succeeded by Brenda Rosenthal, General Manager, who has been with EGLSA for more than two decades.

"Brenda is well-known an appreciated in the trade. I am confident that she will lead EGLSA into the future with honesty, keeping a close eye on the technical advances in the industry, maintaining grading to world standards and as always, providing quality service to the EGLSA clients," Lowe stated.

Lowe (70), said he will be going full time into gemological training in South Africa, the African continent and "around the world and via the internet. I am looking forward to the new challenge!"
