BlueRock Diamonds Halts Work over Safety Breaches

January 25, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - BlueRock Diamonds has again been forced to suspend work at its Kareevlei mine, in Kimberley, South Africa, over breaches of the Mines Health and Safety act.

The UK-based miner said most of the contraventions related to its processing plant. It did not provide details, but was adamant that they did not put workers at risk.

"Management is of the opinion that the instruction to suspend operations is not appropriate given the nature of the findings," it said.

Operations were halted following an unscheduled visit by the South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) last Friday (20 January).

BlueRock expects them to resume by this Friday (27 January) after the contraventions are rectified.

Operations were also halted at the mine in November 2021 after the DMRE served a safety breach notice.
