Hong Kong Show: Mixed Business

September 20, 06 by Edahn Golan

On the third day of the Hong Kong jewelry show, exhibitors are starting to report that business is mixed. With somewhat less quality traffic than last year, many of the buyers are slow on making up their mind, causing a shift in exhibitors’ mood.

While yesterday (Tuesday) was a busy day at the booths in the main venue at the Hong Kong convention center, the second venue, by the Hong Kong airport, was virtually empty. Traffic somewhat picked up today at the second venue, probably at the expense of the main one, which is seeing slightly less traffic today.

Diamond dealers are reporting decent sales at the main halls, seeing many local buyers willing to pay the price, but not buying great volumes. With many of the Jewish and Israeli exhibitors planning to close their booths on Thursday due to the Jewish New Year, they fear they won’t get much of the business. The general belief is that many buyers will make up their mind on what to buy (and at what price) as late as possible.

In the Fine Design Pavilion, another slow day was noted this morning, and many are starting to voice concern that the show won’t be very successful for them.
