The price of gold has risen 43 percent in a year when it stood at $609.60 on January 9, 2007, and rose 8 percent since December 10, 2007, when it stood at $809.50.

Platinum also saw a high of $1,557 per ounce and closed at $1,550. The price of platinum has jumped 38 percent in the past year from its January 9 position at $1,123 and 6 percent from December 10, when it stood at $1,463.
