Wearing one of his pieces – a rectangular locket on a gold chain – Seal said that like a good song, jewelry should be timeless. "It should continue to resonate, and not just because of the fact that somebody gave it to you," he told a small group of journalists at the show. In addition, he said, it can't just be a piece of jewelry; it has to have many layers to it. "There is no real reason why anyone should invest in a piece of jewelry from Seal, other than if there are multiple emotional points."

For this reason, he said, he was drawn to designing his range of lockets because they are not static. They have an added dimension of allowing wearers to fill them with whatever they find significant and wear it close to their heart. He said that the lockets, which he calls functional, personable and also emotional, allow wearers to "fill in the blanks" and complete the story he begins with his design.

Regarding the chunky, masculine designs of the lockets, Seal said that he knew that he was on to something when it felt right in his hand. "I see a lot of gorgeous pieces," he said, but I don't see a lot of things that are tactile." Constantly opening and closing his locket and playing with his wedding band, it was clear just how important this aspect is to him.

The lockets are imprinted with a brief excerpt from one of his songs or from a poem that Seal finds particularly meaningful. Each piece is unique and, like his desire to have wearers complete the story with what they put in the lockets, Seal said that the excerpts are also deliberately left open to interpretation enabling each person to take their own meaning from the text.

Currently, the Seal collection consists of only lockets, but Seal said that he has plenty of ideas for the future. While he wasn't giving much away, he did say that he would love to make a jewelry piece that somehow incorporates music. Perhaps a musical locket is on its way. Design and lyrics by Seal.
