Taché Auctions 101.27 Ct Diamond for $6.2 Million

June 05, 08 by Edahn Golan

Taché's 101.27ct 'Dawn of the
Millennium'

The 101.27 carat diamond sold at Christie’s auction in Hong Kong last week for $6.21 million, or $61,500 per carat, was sold for the Taché Group which also manufactured the stone.

The shield cut VVS1 clarity, F color diamond, named 'Dawn of the Millennium,' was biggest stone the firm had ever owned. It was sold to a private buyer and is the largest diamond ever auctioned in Asia.

Globally, it is the largest colorless stone to appear on the auction market in last 18 years.

Taché polished the diamond from a 460 carat rough stone, which was mined at Premier Diamond Mine, in South Africa, once owned by De Beers and now by Petra Diamonds. It is not known when the diamond was recovered.

The rough was cut into a number of smaller diamonds, one of which was polished into the 101.27 carater.
